I’m often asked how I get my gear photos. People like showing off their gear and as a result, camera photos have become more popular.
There is obviously a lot of work (and gear) that goes into good stock camera photos, but there are also ways to produce good photos on an extremely low budget. When I say extremely low budget, I mean under $10 assuming you have the camera and lens to take the photo and another piece of gear you want to photograph.
The A9ii announcement has come and gone. There has been a floury of people saying Sony under-delivered and a number defending Sony and saying the user expectations were too high.
So who is right? At the risk of opening myself up to criticism, when you have to ask the question “what has changed?” with a camera, then you have to accept that at least some of the criticism is valid. Continue reading “The A9ii – Are our expectations to high or did Sony fail us?”

I saw a post the other day, questioning whether the A7Riv out-resolves the G Master and G lenses and whether people would need to upgrade lenses as a result. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking…who the hell cares? Apparently some people do. 6 months ago they had the sharpest lenses in the Sony lineup but suddenly their sharpness world has imploded and they need new lenses because their camera now out-resolves it. Thanks to Photologo (and similar brands that seem to specialise on creating artistic branding for photos), it seems like every photographer that just bought their first camera now feels they have to watermark their photos to protect them. Photo theft is suddenly the single biggest issue of the modern world, up there with world hunger, a recession and global warming. As a result, everyone wants to logo up their latest snapshot to a facebook group just in case Coca Cola gets hold of it and decides to use it in their latest campaign. The A7Riv has been released and on paper, the specs look amazing. but there is one glaring shortfall I am utterly confused as to why Sony missed, particularly with a camera with this megapixel count.
Small / medium raw
There will be usual Sony apologists who try to defend the decision, but the reality is the A7Riv would be a better camera if they included it and including small / medium raw wouldn’t impact the users who don’t use it. Continue reading “Where is the small / medium raw, Sony?”
