My Pelican 1550 Repair Project – Part 1

In a previous blog post, I previously mentioned I was embarking on a Pelican repair project. I was looking to buy one, but someone offered the case for free, and I thought it was worth trying to refurbishment.

At worst, I could buy a new case later, and it would cost me nothing other than my time on the refurb. At best, I’d save a couple of hundred dollars on a new case and help recycle something that might have otherwise found its way to the dumps. ThinkTank Streetwalker Pro v2.0 Review (Via Shotkit.com)

This is a review I put together for shotkit.com

There are a few brands that have become synonymous with camera bags. ThinkTank is one of those brands. Founded nearly 15 years ago, they’ve built an established following due to the quality of the bags they produce.

I don’t think you’ll find many photographers who don’t currently own or haven’t previously owned a ThinkTank item of some sorts. It’s almost like a rite of passage for being Protogs. The Tamron apologists are out in full force…

With Sigma’s release of the 24-70mm ART, there seems to be a floury of Tamron apologising for something, and I’m still not quite sure what. The Tamron is a great lens.

The challenge is when a manufacturer releases a good lens, suddenly owners of similar lenses feel they need to defend their lenses. It’s as if, someone else releasing a better lens, suddenly makes a lens they were perfectly happy with…bad.

Their lens didn’t get any worse. It’s not producing worse photos. It’s the same great lens it was 12 months ago, but there is a better lens and that hurts their feelings. The only way to do that is to try convince people that this new evil lens isn’t any good and that people don’t need it. Crisis averted. Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN ART Review

In 2014, Sigma said the size of the Sony mount made it difficult to make fast glass for Sony. In 2019 they released an amazing piece of fast glass in the form of the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN ART.

It’s also one of the first Sigma lenses to be true FE mirrorless mount as opposed to the mounts that Sigma produced in the past with a built-in adapter to their DSLR glass.

This glass is identifiable by the combination of DG DN delineation. To date, lenses have had either DG or DN, the DG indicating full-frame and DN mirrorless, but these are the first lenses to appear with both. Continue reading “Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN ART Review”
