I don’t normally write non-photography related posts on this blog, but I think were all facing an unprecedented crisis in the coming weeks and months. Life as we know it will change and some of the freedoms we take for granted will disappear temporarily.
I’m going to avoid a doom and gloom post. I think most of us are pretty nervous about what is to come and no one really knows what state the world will be in 6 months time. As a result, I wanted to wish everyone well. It’s a pretty surreal atmosphere at the moment.
I’m sure you’ll all take care of yourselves, along with those around you who need support. I think it’s important we don’t lose our humanity, but I think we all need to be careful for the coming weeks.
I’m gearing up for a long period of being confined to home. My company has shifted to working from home. My wife will also be working from home and we’re expecting schools to shut in the next week with the potential to extend it to mid year.
Obviously I’d like to keep my photography going, even if it’s to distract myself from what is happening around us for a little while. Sports and model shoots are going to take a back seat for a little while.
At this point, I’m going to focus on a couple of areas:
- I have quite a few reviews outstanding for Shotkit.com so I’ll be focussing on closing those out. They should last me for at least a couple of months.
- I will use this as an opportunity to do some gear photos. I started doing some tonight, so I may need to get a little more exciting with my heat batch.
- It’s been a while since we did some good family shots, so I will focus a little on getting some shots of the family together. I have some new backdrops to experiment with so I think it will provide some good opportunities.
If you have any ideas for photographers on how to keep themselves busy, feel free to send them through.
Otherwise, I’ll continue to put out content. Hopefully all is well with everyone over the next 6 months.
Nice post mate. I am feeling exactly the same. Fortunately we can work from home and I feel for those in an industry where they cannot. I think I will brush up on the use of lighting for product shots. All that stuff you thought me that I should put to better use. G
